At the Invicta Ground today in 1892 it was a friendly against Preston North End. Bernard Shaw, George Davie and Jack Graham all scored but it was only good enough for a 3-3 draw. Goals galore for the 10,000 spectators.

Woolwich Arsenal were at Bank Street on this date in 1897 to play Newton Heath (later Manchester United) in Division 2. A James Brock goal made it a 1-1 draw in Salford.

It was the same scoreline at Bloomfield Road today in 1899 when Ernie Cottrell scored to make it all level at 1-1 against Blackpool. Cottrell had now scored a total of 5 goals in 3 consecutive matches and was chasing Adam Haywood's record of 6 in 4.

Glossop North End had travelled from Derbyshire to Plumstead today in 1902 and left soundly beaten. John Dick and Thomas Briercliffe scored and William Gooing hit a brace for a convincing 4-0 Woolwich Arsenal win.
