On this day in 1988 winger Brian Marwood joined Arsenal from Sheffield Wednesday for £600,000.
He stayed for two full seasons and played 61 times for the club scoring 17 goals.
He was probably one of Arsenal's best short term buys and Alan Smith will attest to that with the number of assists that Marwood provided.
He left in 1992 to return to Sheffield but this time with United.
On This Day in 1966 apprentice Pat Rice signed his professional papers with Arsenal.
He had joined the club in 1964 and so began a lifetime of service to the club
Early Days
On this day in 1893 Royal Arsenal were at the Athletic Grounds to play a friendly against Millwall Athletic in their final season before becoming a league club. A goal from captain Gavin Crawford settled the match 0-1 to the Royals.
The south London rivalry continued today in 1895 when Millwall were this time at the Manor Ground. Patrick O'Brien's goal was enough for a 1-1 draw.
It was another 1-1 draw in Plumstead today in 1899 when David Hannah got his goal against Grimsby Town. Frederick Davis (picture top left) played his final Woolwich Arsenal match. The defender appeared 150 times and also scored 10 goals between 1893 and 1899 before leaving to join Nottingham Forest.
A goal for Andy Ducat and two for Badger meant a 3-0 home win over Burnley in a friendly at the Manor Ground.
