On This Day In 1994 George Graham sold Anders Limpar to Everton for £1.6m.
Limpar was subsequently very critical of Graham’s style of forcing players out by arranging transfers without telling the player that the offer was there until the last minute.
Limpar made 116 appearances and scored 20 goals after joining in 1990
On This Day In 2012 Aston Villa were the visitors to the Emirates. Kieran Gibbs, Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta got the goals for 3-0 and three Premier League points.
This was the Gunners' 7th consecutive win during which Arsenal scored 21 goals
On This Day In 1951 Cliff Holton scored twice in a 2-1 Arsenal victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Dave Bowen (Pictured) made his debut in the match after his £1,000 move from Northampton Town in 1950.
The defender was initially understudy to Joe Mercer but went on to make 162 appearances and scored two goals for the club. He left in 1959 to rejoin Northampton as a player/manager.
Later he was manager of the Wales national team for seven years.
Early Days
On this day in 1889 Royal Arsenal's friendly at Manor Field was against a team from the army's 2nd Rifle Brigade.
Humphrey Barbour's two goals settled things with 2-0 victory to the Royals.
In Plumstead today in 1894 Woolwich Arsenal were at home to Notts County. The team had only played the day before getting a 6-0 victory but today a Gavin Crawford goal wasn't enough as County won the match 1-2.
Lincoln City were at the Manor Ground on this date in 1900 and thanks to goals by Andrew McCowie and Ralph Gaudie it ended with a 2-1 win for the London side.
Defeat at Hillsborough today in 1906 when despite both James Sharp and Tom Fitchie being on target Sheffield Wednesday ran out 4-2 winners. It was a final appearance for goalkeeper Hugh McDonald (picture top left).
Final appearance 'this time', because McDonald is the only player to have had three separate spells at the club and after this performance he didn't play again before leaving for Brighton & Hove Albion.
