Overmars joined in 1997 from Ajax for £6m and although it seems longer he was only with the club for three years. He played 142 times Arsenal and scored 41 goals.
He left us in 2000 to join Barcelona for a fee of £25m.

The Irish striker went on to play 300 times for Arsenal scoring 108 goals before joining a select few players who have played for Arsenal and Manchester United when he signed for the latter in 1981 for £900,000.

The winger/striker joined the Arsenal academy in 1999 and played 51 matches for the first team scoring 9 times after making his debut against Fulham in 2002.
He was sold to Middlesbrough for £2m in 2007
Early Days
On This Day In 1880 midfielder Bobby Templeton was born in Coylton, Scotland. He joined Woolwich Arsenal in 1904 from Newcastle United and played 41 times, getting a single goal. He left in 1906, returned to Scotland and played for Glasgow Celtic.
Today in 1890 Royal Arsenal went to Clapton and beat them 0-2. Unfortunately the names of the goalscorers have yet to be found.
At the Manor Ground today in 1897 Woolwich Arsenal were beaten 2-3 by Small Heath (now Birmingham City). Frank McAvoy and Adam Haywood got the consolation goals.
Another defeat for Woolwich Arsenal when they were beaten 1-0 by Doncaster Rovers at the Intake Ground on this date in 1902.
It was the Gunners that got the 1-0 win on this date in 1907 as Charlie Satterthwaite's goal was enough to beat Sheffield Wednesday at the Manor Ground.
